Boys & Girls Club on track to help food pantries

Apr 27, 2010

The Boys & Girls Club is gearing up to help food pantries in Wareham, with a food drive starting on May 3 that will culminate in "Cans Across the Track," held at Wareham High School on May 15.

On that date, club members, staff, and volunteers, along with members of Wareham High School's Code Club, a community-service organization, will gather all of the donated food and line up the items on the high school's track. They hope to have enough cans to line all the way across the track.

"The whole community is very generous, and they give throughout the year," said Boys & Girls Club Wareham Unit Director Barbara Sullivan. "We want to make a big push to help get the food pantries through the summer."

The food will be given to various Wareham food pantries. Financial contributions will be donated to Turning Point.

The Boys & Girls Club is asking the community to drop off non-perishable food items at the club, located on Viking Drive, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, as well as 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The club will be accepting donations until May 14.

Donations can then be dropped off at the high school track during the event, which goes from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on May 15th.
