Boys varsity finishes regular season with a strong 94-43 win over Bourne
In their final game of the 2009-2010 regular season, the varsity boys basketball team did what they needed to do and blew the Bourne Canalmen out of the gym, winning by 51-points, 94-43. Bourne took the opening lead 2-0, but the Vikings took over from then on.
Jules Tavares led Wareham with 17 points, followed by Ryan Pina with 16, and Jordan Rezendes with 14.
Wareham led 57-16 at halftime. During the break, Coach Kevin Brogioli presented commemorative plaques to three of the five Wareham players who have scored 1000 points in their careers. Jordan Rezendes is the latest addition to that group.
The win capped a 20-2 regular season that will send the team into the post-season tournament. With a core of four seniors (Pat Murphy, Ryan Pina, Jordan Rezendes, and Darren Gray) and junior Jules Tavares, the team is hoping to continue their winning ways all the way through the finals, which will be held at the Boston Garden.
Tournament seedings are expected to available on the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association website (www.miaa.net) on Friday.
