Brent Hastings Memorial Tournament expected to net over $10,000

Oct 1, 2014

The first annual Brent Hastings Memorial Golf Tournament was a success, with a total of more than $10,000 expected to be netted from the event alone.

The money from the Sept. 27 tourney and dinner will go to the Herren Project to support Project Go Purple, which helps individuals and families dealing with substance abuse.

Brent Hastings passed away in March of 2014 after a suspected heroin overdose. Through his struggles with addiction, Hastings showed support for the Herren Project.

His mother, Melodye Conway, recently organized the Brent Hastings Memorial Fund and the tournament to raise money for the Herren Project in the fight against substance abuse.

“We had 55 golfers and another 45 guests (at a dinner following the tournament),” said Conway of the event, which was held at the Bay Pointe Club. “We are completely humbled by the show of support from our local businesses as sponsors and prize donors as well as the support from our golfers and guests.”

Conway said that once all the money from the recent tournament has been collected, she expects to have raised over $15,000 to date in Hastings' name.
