Bruce F. Bumpus, 74

Jan 16, 2013

Bruce F. Bumpus, a lifelong resident of Wareham, entered into rest on Jan. 15. He was the husband of Jocelyn Bumpus.

Bruce was born in New Bedford, MA on July 1, 1938. He was the son of the late Benjamin F. Bumpus and Rose E. (Campbell) Bumpus. He was also predeceased by a son, Bruce Michael Bumpus, his sister, Evelyn I. (Bumpus) Moos, and his lifelong friend, Francis Walker Nelson.

He was one of those truly unique individuals. He was 10 years old when he got his first car. He fixed it up and has been fixing and building things since. There’s a saying that if he can’t fix it, it can’t be done. He grew up on the water and knew it as well as anyone. His expertise and knowledge of just about anything will be missed. His sense of humor was hysterical.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Benjamin F. Bumpus and his wife Shirley of Wareham; his daughters, Sherri (Bumpus) Heppes and her husband Robert of N.Y., Lynne (Bumpus) Deslauriers of Wareham, Elizabeth (Bumpus) Reynolds of Plymouth; his step-daughters, Linda Costa and her husband, Chris of Fairhaven, and Brenda Peyton of Wareham; 21 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His funeral and burial service will be private.
