Buzzards Bay Coalition events celebrate nature
The Buzzards Bay Coalition is offering two very different activities this week.
First, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9, the Coalition will hold its weekly Wednesday Walkabout at Marks Cove, 37 Nicholas Drive. Marks Cove Conservation Area features a view into the coastal habitats of the upper portion of Buzzards Bay, where sandy forests intermingle with rich salt marshes. Walk the quiet trails here to discover these woods and wetlands along the edge of the property’s namesake cove. The Buzzards Bay Coalition invites residents to join them for an afternoon hike full of fresh air and scenic views. There are no facilities on site.
Next, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13, the Coalition offers a Bay Adventure in bushcraft skills on Wicketts Island. Bushcraft is the art of wilderness survival. The more skills and knowledge that you have, the more capable you are of thriving in the natural environment. This series is an excellent way to create memorable experiences outdoors and instill a sense of “rewilding” through activities such as fire lighting, shelter building, knife and axe skills, solar still and water purification methods and following the “Bushman’s Code.” Guests will park at Onset Pier and take a ferry to Wicketts Island where the activity will take place.
Both events are free and all necessary materials will be provided by the Buzzards Bay Coalition, but registration is required. To register, call 508-999-6363 Ext. 223 or email lamar@savebuzzardsbay.org.
