Buzzards Bay Expo showcase for area businesses

Jun 16, 2016

Twenty-seven organizations participated in the Wareham Buzzards Bay Business Expo on June 15.

In an effort to increase awareness about services offered,  the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center in Wareham manned a booth at the event.

While giving out free goodie bags and brochures in Rosebrook Event Center, Health Center employees explained to people who they are and what they do.

The facility provides primary care for all ages, benefits counseling, and social worker and patient advocate assistance. It accepts most insurance coverages, and will help find plans for those who do not have insurance. Additionally, it connects people to the services they need.

Though the center’s opening was intended to provide more convenient services for underserved Wareham’s residents who need affordable health care, employee Kathleen Minnock said not many people know the center exists for them.

Located in the Shaw's Plaza on Marion Road, the center holds 12 patient rooms and will always accept new patients. Since their opening in September, the center has partnered with Nights of Hospitality to provide assistance to homeless individuals.

Minnock said, "We're not trying to change they way they live, just assist them."

"Which, health-wise, we actually should do," she joked.

The expo was sponsored by the Cape Cod Five bank, the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce, Marriott TownPlace and Suites and the Cranberry Country Chamber of Commerce. From 3 to 6 p.m., a winner was chosen every half hour to receive a door prize. With hors d'oeuvres and appetizers, the event was open to the public.
