Buzzards Bay Sail & Power Squadron to hold summer boat safety course, seminars

May 23, 2024

Buzzards Bay Sail & Power Squadron, a local boating organization part of United States Power Squadron (America’s Boating Club), is offering a boating safety course and a series of seminars.

A basic boating safety course — “USPS America’s Boating Course” — begins June 18. The overview course is nationally approved through the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators and is accepted by Massachusetts for the issuance of boating safety certificates. It is the organization’s last basic boating course until the fall.

The course is $65 per student and meets four times in June from 6:30 to 9 p.m., with an exam on June 30.

Beginning June 5, the organization begins a seminar program with an evening seminar on boating and navigating with electronics. A two-session presentation on boat handling begins June 12, and a three-session presentation on nautical charts and basic coastal navigation begins July 10. On-water boat handling instruction will follow the boat handling seminars.
