Cape Verdean Festival Association celebrates successful fundraiser

Sep 28, 2021

The Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association hosted a Canal Cruise Fundraiser on Sept. 18 to raise additional funds to support the association’s 2022 scholarships for high school students.

More than 100 tickets were sold for the 5-7:30 p.m. cruise down the Cape Cod Canal, according to Tiny Lopes, who works with the association.

The cruise 50/50 raffle raised $310 and the gift basket raffle raised an additional $475, Lopes said. Five gift baskets were created and donated by members of the Onset Cape Verdean Festival Association, featuring gift cards from Bailey's Surf N Turf, the Gateway Tavern, Kool Kone, Lindsey’s Family Restaurant and the Narrows Restaurant and coupons from Master Muffler & Brake and Cardi’s Furniture & Matresses.

During the cruise, DJ Frye provided entertainment and guests enjoyed finger sandwiches, assorted chips and cookies.

“It was a perfect evening with wonderful weather, a beautiful sunset and the beginning of a full moon,” Lopes said in a statement.

After expenses, approximately $1,345 was raised for the scholarship fund.

At present, the association has planned the Cape Verdean Festival for Aug. 15, 2022, “hopefully on the bluffs in Onset,” Lopes said.
