Cape Verdean Festival brings music, dance to Onset

Crowds of people turned out for the Onset Cape Verdean Festival on Sunday, Aug. 11.
This year marked the festival’s 22nd iteration of celebrating Cape Verdean culture and tradition.
Music from the Onset Bandshell from artists such as Candida Rose, a New Bedford-based musician who performs Cape Verdean inspired music,
“The music sounds great!” said festival spokesperson Tiny Lopes.
In addition to the musical performances, festival-goers got to experience food vendors, stalls with clothing and other goods and the Schooner Ernestina-Morrissey, which was the last packet ship in regular service to carry Cape Verdean immigrants to the United States.
