Carol Ann Fitzpatrick

Jan 17, 2021

Carol Ann Fitzpatrick was a caring wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend who loved family, traveling and helping others. She passed away after a valiant fight with cancer on January 4, 2021 at age 74 with her family by her side.

She was born to Emily (Bento) and Delfin Gonsalves on September 29, 1946 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and ultimately moved to New Fairfield, CT, where she graduated from Danbury High School and went on to study business at The Butler Business School. After graduation, she worked as a data entry supervisor at Amphenol Borg in Danbury, CT. In 1968, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life Thomas Fitzpatrick. They started their married lives in Huntsville Alabama where Tom was served as an officer in the Army. They had two daughters, Dawn and Jennifer, before settling in the quaint town of Windham, NH, where they had their sons Thomas Scott and Matthew.

Carol loved raising their children and supporting them as the family grew. There wasn’t a time more special to Carol than those spent with her children and then with her grandchildren; all 10 of them. She attended sports games, plays, recitals, graduations and all their special moments including the most recent; the marriage of her oldest granddaughter.

Carol had a passion for the ocean and sharing it with family at their summer cottage in Wareham, MA and all over the world on vacation experiences she created for her children and grandchildren. In 2009, she and Tom retired and rebuilt their home on the ocean where she hosted countless family clam-bakes and holiday get-togethers. It was here where Carol found herself among a wonderful group of people at the Good Shepherd’s Table Food Pantry, Nights of Hospitality, Turning Point and The Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen and where she dedicated her time to volunteering.  She would often help prepare meals alongside her children and grandchildren at the Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen.

Carol is survived by her husband Thomas Fitzpatrick, daughters Dawn (Fitzpatrick) Walsh of Kingston MA and Jennifer (Fitzpatrick) Mitchell of Windham NH and their families; sons Thomas Scott Fitzpatrick of Windham NH, and Matthew Fitzpatrick of Plymouth MA and their families and her brother Daniel Gonsalves.

Our family is extremely appreciative of the exceptional care Carol received at Tufts Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital. In lieu of Flowers, the family asks to consider donating to The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care at Tufts Medical Center 30 Winter Street, 2nd Floor, Boston MA 02108 or to Massachusetts General Hospital 55 Fruit St, Boston MA 02114 or to the Church of the Good Shepherd 74 High Street, Wareham MA 02571

The family funeral service and burial will be private. A public celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, MA.  To share a memory or leave a message of condolence, visit: www.ccgfuneralhome.com.
