Wareham's downtown could see another injection of cash to revamp the area.

On Tuesday night, the Board of Selectmen voted to authorize Selectmen Chair Peter Teitelbaum to sign a letter supporting an application from the Community and Economic Development Authority (CEDA) for a $10,000 Massachusetts Downtown Initiative Grant.

"[CEDA Director Salvador Pina] is looking to get a grant for...a market analysis of downtown Wareham Village," explained Teitelbaum.

The Massachusetts Downtown Initiative Grant is funded by the state Department of Housing and Community Development, and its purpose is to assist towns in revitalizing downtown areas.

Selectman Alan Slavin noted that a number of business owners expressed concern about the streetscape project on Main Street in Wareham interrupting business, and said business owners will be a bigger part of the conversation for the project that comes from this grant.

"The discussion of what they're going to do here should have an end result," said Slavin. "This time around, the business community will be heavily involved."
