CEDA votes to remove member from board
Members of the Community Economic Development Committee voted to remove Robert Brady from their board on Thursday night following allegations of disruptive behavior.
The board voted 5-0 on the motion following a brief meeting where that topic was the only agenda item.
Brady was not present. Former member Ken Fontes had resigned earlier in the year after being elected to Onset’s Board of Water Commissioners.
“This is a sad day,” said Vice Chair Michael Fitzgerald after the vote.
The vote followed five complaints from CEDA, written as letters to the Board of Selectmen, that asked for Brady’s removal.
One of those letters, written by CEDA member Barbara Sullivan, was addressed at the Selectmen’s Aug. 9 meeting.
At that meeting, board members were told Brady’s removal required a formal vote. Selectmen then would have to follow a protocol outlined in the Town Charter to have Brady taken off the board, which is an appointed position.
Brady was reprimanded by Town Administrator Derek Sullivan earlier this year for allegedly eavesdropping on a closed door conversation between the town administrator and Acting CEDA Director Peter Sanborn.
Selectman Peter Teitelbaum, who is the board’s liaison to CEDA, was present for Thursday’s vote.
After the meeting, he said a planned meeting between Derek Sullivan, Selectmen and the town’s attorney to discuss the eavesdropping had not taken place yet.
Teitelbaum also noted that Brady’s removal would not be discussed at the next Selectmen’s meeting as the agenda had already been drafted.
