Celebrate the arts with a 'Lover's Leap' and concert on Valentines Day

Jan 25, 2015

If you think you're ready to take a leap of faith with your lover, Indian Mound Beach on Valentine's Day will be the place to test the waters . . . literally.

Local performing arts venue Buzzards Play Productions will be hosting a "Lover's Leap" at noon on Valentine's Day to benefit the non-profit playhouse.

Similar to the Polar Dive held every New Year's Day in Onset, the Lover's Leap gives the opportunity for couples to plunge into icy waters. Participants are asked to get friends and family to pledge a donation in support of their icy leap and in turn Buzzards Play Productions.

Located at 3065 Cranberry Highway, Buzzards Play Productions has been showcasing theatre, music and other entertainment to local audiences for nearly five years.

After the leap, participants are invited back to the theater for a "warm reception" featuring food and refreshments. Later on in the evening, Buzzards Play will host a concert headlined by Charlie Farren and Shaun England.

Farren was a legend in the Boston rock scene of the 70s and 80s playing guitar in The Joe Perry Project and Farrenheit. England is an accomplished blues musician and Wareham resident to boot.

"There's such a quality of people here that want to perform and we want to be the place they want to come to," said Janice Rogers, who co-owns Buzzards Play along with her husband Frank.

The funds raised by the Lovers Leap will do more than just fund the ongoing entertainment at the venue, such as the theatre's next production, "The Illusion."

Rogers is in the early stages of planning a "Southcoast Film Festival" some time in early June. She said she has spoken to independent film companies that are interested and is looking for submissions, judges and anyone else interested in getting involved.
