Charity golf tournament helps children
Year after year, loyal Lindsey’s Restaurant customers brave unpredictable weather and help support the Buzzy Lindsey & Shon Shadrick Memorial Golf Tournament at Little Harbor Country Club in Wareham.
Held this past Monday, the weather was rainy and cold but that didn’t stop the Lindsey’s faithful from coming out for the annual charity event.
Judy Niemi from Niemi Electric has been golfing in the tournament for many years and said the reason was, “It’s a good time and for a good cause.”
For over 15 years, Lindsey’s has held the tournament to raise money for two causes near and dear to their hearts, the Junior Golf Program at Little Harbor and the Shon Shadrick Memorial Scholarship.
A portion of the money raised from the tournament helps offset the cost of the junior golf program so that it is more affordable for all kids who want to play golf. The remainder of the monies raised is awarded in the form of a $5,000 scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in special education. The scholarship is in honor of the late Shon Shadrick, nephew to Cheri Lindsey.
Supporting causes that help children was the main reason four women from Falmouth have been participating for five years. Linda Williams was the captain of the foursome of females and said that between them there was a pediatric nurse, a teacher and a children’s book author. “We are all heart and we care about children,” said her teammate, Sue Ruggeri.
The Junior Golf Program is open to all children aged seven to 17 and teaches the fundamentals of golf. To donate to the Junior Golf Program or to participate, call Shawn Lapworth at (508) 295-2617.
