Charles J. Nickolaow, 68, of Sandwich passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8 surrounded by his family.

He was born in Brockton, Oct. 26, 1947. Charlie graduated from Brockton High School in 1965 and from Rutgers University in 1970 receiving his bachelor’s degree in history, where he also played football. He was married to the late Gloria (Woods) for 36 years.

In 1973 Charlie opened his restaurant, Charlie’s Place in Wareham. It continues to run successfully to this day. He was an avid reader, political buff and sports fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, swimming and traveling and one of his favorite places was Barbados.

Charlie is survived by his daughter, Catherine, her husband John Robertson, and their daughter, Olivia; a sister, Denise (Batchis) (Crutchfield); brother, Harry; and nephews, Andrew and Evan Batchis.
