Christmas collectibles, silent book auction offered at Wareham Library
The Friends of the Wareham Free Library are showcasing a number of Christmas collectibles this December -- in addition to the silent book auction the group holdsevery month.
There is a small Christmas village with intricate shops and figurines for sale in the rear of the library near the reference desk and computers.
The centerpiece of the Christmas display, however, is a Mister Christmas Christmas Eve Ball piece. The piece features a set of moving dancers and plays 15 different Christmas tunes. (See the video at left for what the piece looks like in action). The auction will conclude Dec. 18, so the winning bidder can have it before Christmas.
Up for auction is a hard cover copy of the screenplay of Margaret Mitchell's "Gone With the Wind." The screenplay was written by Sidney Howard and the book contains many photographs.
The three offerings for the December silent book auction are all novels that have been made into movies, although the first offering falls somewhere in between the two.
The second is a hard cover dust-jacketed copy of Lewis Carroll's classic story of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. The book is a Junior Library edition, printed in 1971 with colorful illustrations by John Tenniel.
The third book being auctioned is "The Robe," by Lloyd C. Douglas, published in 1947. It is also an illustrated hardcopy edition with a dust jacket.
Anyone can bid on these works at the Wareham Free Library any Thursday, Friday or Saturday through the end December during library hours. The books are on display at the front of the library near the circulation desk.
