Christmas fair gives residents a head start on holidays

Nov 18, 2017

Wareham residents had a chance to get ahead on Christmas shopping on Saturday, with the Women's Society of Christian Service Christmas fair at the Old Methodist Meeting House selling an assortment of items for a good cause.

The fair offered gift baskets, baked goods, a yard sale and Christmas ornaments. The annual event is the group's largest fundraiser and the money goes toward the "Mom Perry" scholarship fund and community and global missions organizations.

"It's been very busy today," said Andrea Buckley, an organizer of the Christmas fair.

Some of the groups supported by the Women's Society of Christian Service are Evergreen House, Family Connections, Westview Boys Home, Pine Crest Appalachian Ministries, Turning Point, Baby Point, Wycliffe Bible, Children International, Orphans of the Ukraine and several individual missionaries abroad.

The non-denominational group of women has met for 50 years. Approximately 15 women from Wareham and surrounding areas meet on the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene in Wareham. For more information, call 508-295-8534.
