Classical compositions delight at Music from Land's End concert

Jul 25, 2016

Mozart’s “Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, KV 493” was deemed to difficult to finish after the composer was commissioned to complete the work in 1785.

Even though he was released from his obligation, Mozart forged ahead, completing the work in 1786.

“It’s a testimony to the human soul that creativity is possible under any circumstances,” said Ariadne Daskalakis, artistic director for “Music from Land’s End.”

The concert series came to Wareham on Sunday evening where compositions from Mozart, Gideon Klein and Franz Schubert were performed inside the Church of the Good Shepard.

Daskalakis, a longtime Wareham summer resident, launched the series five years ago with the mission to bring world-class music to Wareham and the tri-town. The series has steadily grown since then. This year, an additional performance was added in New Bedford for the first time.

The series also raises funds for area nonprofit and charitable organizations.

Proceeds from Sunday’s concert were donated to the church’s soup kitchen/food pantry. Other beneficiaries include the Wareham Free Library and the Education Outreach Program of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.

The schedule for upcoming concerts is as follows:

July 28, 4 p.m. – Wareham Free Library

July 30, 8 p.m. – Church of the Good Shepard, Wareham

July 31, 5 p.m. – New Bedford Whaling Museum
