College Access helps students get financial aid
All high school seniors, returning college students and adults planning on attending college for the 2014-2015 school year must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
College Access, a program of the Massachusetts Department of Education in partnership with Seven Hills Behavioral Health, will be offering free on-line application assistance at both Wareham High School and the Boys & Girls Club located at the Ethel Hammond School, 16 Highland Ave. in Onset.
The FAFSA must be completed in order to be considered for grants, loans or work-study. Students should file their FAFSA as soon as possible as filing late has many consequences.
By the end of the workshop, the FAFSA will have been submitted to each of the schools the student has applied to.
Dependent students (those born after Dec. 31, 1990) are required to bring a parent, parent and student income verification, including signed 2012 federal income tax forms, or other sources of support, resident alien card if not a US citizen, and asset information.
Wareham High School seniors can pick up a detailed list of required documents from Ms. Rezendes, college access educational advisor, located in the Wareham High School Guidance Office on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Detailed lists will also be available at both the Main and Spinney libraries.
Independent students are those individuals who are over 24 years of age. There are special circumstances wherein an individual under age 24 may apply as an independent student, but that must be addressed individually.
The FAFSA Financial Aid Workshops at Wareham High School will be held two wednesdays each month from January to April from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The workshops provide individual assistance on a walk-in basis with the last person admitted by 7 p.m.
The dates are as follows: Jan. 15, Jan. 29, Feb. 12, Feb. 26, March 12, March 26, April 16, April 30.
FAFSA Financial Aid Workshops at the Boys & Girls Club at the Hammond School in Onset will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Jan. 23, Feb. 20, March 20, April 17 and May 8, and from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 6, March 13 and April 10.
