Connecting with nature at Family Fun Day
Friday was a day to paddle, play, and pet some slimy reptiles in Wareham.
Dozens of families descended onto A.D. Makepeace Farms for Family Fun Day, where they were able to spend a beautiful evening outdoors and take in some of the several activities the event had to offer.
Kids got the chance to play outdoor games, watch and experience a live reptile show, and go out on the water at Nemasket Kayak's new Tihonet Pond location.
David Tomasia took his four-year-old granddaughter Mischa out on a kayak.
Mischa said she had a lot fun out on the water.
“I liked the paddling. The ocean was so beautiful,” she said of her time on the 50-acre Tihonet Pond.
Roy Edwards, owner of Nemasket Kayak, said he opened up his new location on the grounds in May after people from A.D. Makepeace approached him last year.
“They've been very benevolent to us,” Edwards said of Makepeace.
Nemasket Kayak offers kayak, canoe and stand up paddle rentals and guided tours on the pond as well as at the Onset Pier location that opened last summer.
“Today, we're just giving people a feel for it,” he said. “We just want to invite everybody to come out here and enjoy the pond.”
Toward the end of the evening a gaggle of kids gathered in the shade for a reptile show from Justin's Reptiles where they learned about everything from bugs to lizards and turtles.
“We love coming here,” said Cheryl Tomasia, Mischa's grandmother. “This is excellent.”
