A Level 3 sex offender was arrested on Oct. 25 after changing rooms in the motel where he lives without telling authorities, police say.

Wareham Police charged Ronald Franklin, Jr., 58, of East Wareham, with failing to notify police about the address change. Detectives arrested Franklin at the Silver Lake Motel, located at 3026 Cranberry Highway, at about 6:45 a.m.

Acting Police Chief John Walcek said police acted quickly after learning about the address change.

“Although Mr. Franklin only moved two rooms away, he failed to report that, and our detectives took immediate action when they obtained this information,” said Walcek. “Protecting our most vulnerable populations includes strict enforcement of individuals who do not register properly as sex offenders.”

Under state law, registered sex offenders have two days to notify police about an address change.

According to the state’s sex offender registry, Franklin was convicted on two counts of rape of a child with force, one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age and one count of dissemination of matter harmful to minors. Franklin was found guilty of those crimes in 2002.
