Cooking competition heats up at teachers' in-service

Jan 23, 2014

Wareham Public Schools students enjoyed a four-day weekend this past week. Monday, of course, was Martin Luther King Day. But what about Friday? That day was a “teacher in-service day.”

On in-service days, teachers report to school for meetings, workshops covering everything from technology to teaching techniques, and collaboration time with their colleagues.

However, the in-service was not all work and no play.

During their lunch period, Wareham Middle School faculty and staff got together for a friendly show-off of culinary creations in their own version of “Iron Chef.”

The secret ingredient is... well, was… bacon.

From dips and spreads to cupcakes and muffins, the teachers showed that bacon can be used in, well… just about anything.

The competition was for a good cause — the teachers, through entry fees, raised $180 for the Damien’s Place food pantry in East Wareham.

Teachers Noelle Johnson and Beth Giuffrida tied for first in the contest.
