Corinne H. Baker, 86

May 8, 2020

Corinne H. Baker, 86, passed away peacefully after a long illness at home on May 6, 2020, surrounded by her family.  Corinne was the daughter of the late Ralph R. and Oria M. (Bolduc) Pierce.

For many years, beginning when she was eight years old, she was a participant in Carver's Old Home Day, where she served meals at the clambake. She also enjoyed attending her Plymouth High School Class Reunion for over sixty years!

Corinne worked hard from the time she was a young girl. She worked on the bogs and was a proud cranberry grower for Ocean Spray for many years. When home with her young children, she opened and ran the Gate Street Kindergarten in her basement. She was the owner, teacher and bus driver.

The career she held the longest and may be best remembered for was her work at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. Starting as a Health Unit Coordinator, she worked her way up to Supervisor. She was excellent at what she did and made many lifelong friends in the process. She got a kick out of playing practical jokes on the doctors at Tobey, especially Dr. John Howard. Some of her favorite memories were traveling with Vaino and her "step-sister" Pat Kaasinen.

Corinne lived most of her life in Wareham, where in retirement she enjoyed exercise class and special events at the Senior Center with a group of friends. Most Sunday afternoons, she hosted domino games at her home. And in her later years she enjoyed spending time at Foxwoods with her companion, Gerry Weinstein. Corinne will be fondly remembered and missed by her loving family and many friends.

She leaves behind two sons, Albert (Larry) Baker of Burlington, Maine, and his companion Michelle, and Paul Baker of Wareham. Also, a daughter, Janet Bakeman and her wife Helen, and step-son Chet Halunen and his companion Marty, of Wareham. She is survived by five grandchildren; Jennifer Cullivan, Jodi Baker, Tara Baker, Andrea Baker and Robert Bergeron, four great-grandchildren, she was the brother of Leonard Pierce of Weymouth and was also survived by her loving companion Gerry Weinstein. She was predeceased by her son, Scott Baker, her companion of many years, Vaino Halunen, and her brother, the late Dennis Pierce.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Southcoast VNA Hospice and Palliative Care, Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association www.southcoast.org  who cared for her and supported her family through her end-of-life transition.
