Council on Aging plans May events

Plenty of activities are planned for May at the Council on Aging. All events are held at the Multi-Service Center at 48 Marion Road unless otherwise noted. The Council on Aging is open Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. To register for events, call 508-291-3130.

On May 2, discuss current events at 10 in the gym. Call to register.

At 1 p.m. on May 2, learn how to make and mold marshmallow fondant and decorate four cupcakes to take home. Registration is required, and a $2 donation is requested.

Later, at 2:30 p.m., seniors can dance through time with Rhonda and the Soul Train at a Hip Hop Chair Dance Class, funded by the Wareham Cultural Council.

On May 11, a weekly acrylic painting class will begin, with the last class on June 1. The $60 fee includes all supplies. Call to register.

At 1 p.m. on May 11, enjoy a free showing of “Hello Dolly.”

On May 13, the Garden Club will lead a garden arrangement class at 10:30 a.m. Space is limited. Call to register.

On May 17, District Attorney Tim Cruz and other local public safety officials will discuss scams targeting the elderly at 9 a.m.

On May 18, attend a fashion show and brunch at 11:30 a.m. The brunch — featuring an omelet, french toast sticks and home fries — will be followed by a fashion show featuring Council on Aging board members and employees as models. Please make lunch reservations a week in advance by calling 508-291-3100, ext. 6514. A donation of $2.50 is requested.

On May 25, a bingo game will be held at 12:30. Cash prizes only. Cards cost $3 each or two for $5. Volunteers are needed for bingo games — call to help. To make a reservation for lunch before bingo, call 508-291-3100, ext. 6514.

On May 25, learn to make greeting cards at 9:15 a.m. A $3 donation is requested. Enough materials will be included to make four or five cards.
