Covid-19 cases on the rise

Apr 21, 2022

Board of Health officials addressed the rise in reported Covid-19 cases in their Wednesday night meeting this week.

"Everything’s starting to go up a little bit," chair Amy Wiengandt said during the meeting.

Case counts were high earlier this year before dipping around March, officials said, but now cases are slowly rising, in Wareham and elsewhere.

Thirty people in Wareham have tested positive for the virus between March 27 and April 9, according to state-released data.

Statewide, there were 1,853 new cases reported as of April 20. Of all confirmed cases statewide in the past two weeks, the majority — 5,901 cases — were confirmed in people ages 20-29.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved in March an update to its vaccination recommendations: those who are immunocompromised or over 50 are eligible for another mRNA booster shot if it’s been at least four months since their last dose.
