Cranberry Coast Concert Series returns for 12th season

Jun 16, 2017

When it comes to music, nothing beats a live performance.

“We frequently consume music when it's on screens, in our headphones and on T.V.,” says Kirk Whipple, co-founder of the Cranberry Coast Concert Series. “You have no idea what it actually sounds like unless you’re there in person.”

Whipple and the series’ other co-founder, Marilyn Morales, Whipple’s wife, will bring the immediacy of a live performance to Eastern Bank on Main Street throughout the summer.

Now in its 12th year, the concert series has featured artists from across New England and beyond. The couple, who are both concert pianists, have performed on stages across the world, and some of their fellow musicians will be joining them again this season.

According to Whipple, this year the series will get back to its roots, focusing on piano and voice compositions.

“That’s the hallmark of the series – an intimate, live concert experience,” said Whipple.

As always, there will be plenty of variety at the shows.

“We play everything from Bach to rock,” said Morales.

The series kicks off with “A Celebration of Piano & Voice” on Friday, June 23 at 7 p.m. in Eastern Bank, 226 Main St.

On July 7, the series will feature “With a Song in My Heart - A History of Broadway Musical Theater.” The show includes performances of Broadway’s greatest hits and starts at 7 p.m.

The Cranberry Coast Concert Cool Jazz Concert is set for July 14 at 7 p.m. That concert promises “imaginative arrangements of classic jazz standards,” according to Whipple.

On July 21, talented local musicians will be given a showcase at the “Outstanding Young Artists Concerts.” According to Whipple, rising stars from the region will perform. Selections presented include works for piano, voice and other instruments. This concert is free of charge.

All concerts cost $25 general admission and $20 for seniors and students. Season tickets cost $100.
