Creepy crawly walk in the woods with Boys & Girls Club

Aug 4, 2017

Wareham Boys & Girls Club members trekked into Great Neck Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday with Massachusetts Audubon biologist Lauren Miller-Donnelly.

The kids identified their favorite reptile or amphibian, from diamondback turtle to alligator, then set out to explore the forest floor.

First, the children called in a black capped chickadee and eastern towhee, then examined the pine-needled floor and old logs for salamanders, slugs and thumbnail-sized spring peepers.

The club’s "Kukoo" program incorporates events through the week that teach kids about nature. The Audubon has also done programs on osprey and bug identification.
