The Onset Cape Verdean Association will be celebrating the 50th year of the Cape Verdean Independence with the 23rd Annual Onset Cape Verdean Festival.

The festival will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Onset Bandshell on 4 Union Ave. The celebration will last from noon to 6 p.m. 

Public relations officer for the association Tiny Lopes said the event is like a reunion.

“Come early and stay late,” he said. “Enjoy the music and people.”

There will be around 60 vendors with 12 food vendors. Some will be making desserts, and other vendors selling merchandise like t-shirts and jewelry. 

The free festival will feature a that band will be on stage from noon until 6 p.m. playing Cape Verdean music. 

If needed, the rain date is Sunday, Aug. 10. 

Parking is limited, and participants are encouraged to be dropped off or arrive earlier for easier parking.
