Curbing the Culture of Shame: A Conversation on the Impact of Cyberbullying

The Marion Institute will present a virtual panel discussion titled “Curbing the Culture of Shame: A Conversation on the Impact of Cyberbullying” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. 

The panel will discuss and respond to the documentary “Audrie & Daisy,” which is available to watch on Netflix. The documentary examines the ripple effects on families, friends, schools and communities when two underage young women find that sexual assault crimes against them have been caught on camera. Attendees of the virtual event are encouraged to view Audrie & Daisy on Netflix prior to the event, though key clips from the film will be shown for context.

The panel includes Dr. Juli Parker, the assistant dean of students and director of UMass Dartmouth’s Center for Women, Gender, and Sexuality; Stacy Malone, the executive director of the Victim Rights Law Center; Claire Spaulding McVicker, the executive director of the Katie Brown Educational Program; and Jeffrey Glidden, LICSW, a violence recovery program counselor and advocate at Fenway Health.

“Curbing the Culture of Shame” is presented in partnership with the New Bedford Lyceum and its member organizations, and is part of Thursday evening’s VAHA! New Bedford’s programming recognition of May Mental Health Awareness Month.
