David William Eldredge, 89

David William Eldredge, 89, died Sunday, November 9 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham unexpectedly. He was the husband of Eleanor M. (Fava) Eldredge.

Born in New Bedford the son of the late Katherine (Johnston) and Leroy L. Eldredge, Sr., he was a lifelong resident of Wareham. He attended New Hampton School, Worcester Academy and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture.

A longtime cranberry grower, Mr. Eldredge was president of EDA – (Edaville) and general manager of Edaville Railroad for many years. He was also a Plymouth County Deputy Sheriff and court officer for 17 years.

Mr. Eldredge served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

Mr. Eldredge was a member of the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association, a director for Ocean Spray, a director of Farm Credit Bank and Wareham Co-Operative Bank, a member of Cranberry Institute in Carver, a member of Social Harmony Masonic Lodge in Wareham and the Old Colony Club of Plymouth.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor M. Eldredge; his daughter, Sarah Eldredge of Cheshire, Connecticut; his son, David Eldredge and his wife Marlene of Carver; his brother, Leroy Eldredge of Hingham; his four awesome grandchildren, Marcus, David, Nathan and Caroline that were the apple of his eye; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 15 at Union Church, 28 South Main St., (Rt. 58), Carver at 11 a.m.
