Decas Elementary students showcase art work

With baskets made out of newspapers, dinosaurs with a detergent bottle body and sailboats made out of foam, Thursday night was a celebration of creativity, imagination and hard work at John W. Decas Elementary School.
Hallways were lined with hundreds of pieces created by students throughout the year for the annual art show.
“They work really hard and do something they can feel very proud of,” said Ellen Osborn, an art teacher at Decas.
From self portraits to sculptures, art from every grade was represented.
On display at the front of the school was the mural created by the students, for the students. The mural was completed in 2014 and decorates the entrance of the school.
“These kids, they did everything,” said Osborn. She pointed to a few display boards with pictures of the process. “First they decided what they wanted to do and they made it their own.”
It took drafting, editing, revising and referring to dozens of pictures before coming to a completion.
“The whole evolution was so great,” said Osborn.
