Decas students take a stroll down the Golden Carpet

Mar 31, 2017

Decas Elementary students who are responsible, respectful and safe don't get just a golden star. They get the chance to walk in a parade, cheered on by their fellow students.

Decas began the Golden Book Awards last month, after planning out an incentive for students who exemplified the school's motto of "responsible, respectful, safe." A student from each grade level is chosen for their adherence to the motto, as well as an additional student recommended by the school's specialist. Golden ticket winners are rewarded with golden pencils, a golden certificate and their photo on the award bulletin board. Their names are also entered into the school's "Golden Book."

April's winners received something new too: the chance to walk at the front of a parade.

According to Vice Principal Bethany Chandler, the parade celebrates students who have shown exemplary behavior. April's winners of the Golden Book Award led the parade. Following them were 170 other students, all awarded golden stars for good behavior by their teachers. Their classmates cheered on the sidelines as Justin Timberlake blared over the loudspeakers.
