Dennis D. Engler, 67, South Attleboro postal clerk, U.S. Army veteran

Dennis D. Engler, 67, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at his home in Wareham unexpectedly. He was the husband of Sandra K. (Kreiser) Engler.

Born in Attleboro, the son of the late Frederick S. & Marjorie R. (Rioux) Engler, he was raised in Mansfield and graduated from Coyle High School. A longtime resident of Attleboro, he moved to Wareham in 1991.

For 32 years, Mr. Engler worked as postal clerk at the South Attleboro post office. He retired in 1998. After his retirement, he worked as a security guard at the Holiday Inn in Mansfield.

Mr. Engler was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1964 to 1966 during the Vietnam War.

In Attleboro, Mr. Engler coached girls’ softball for the S. Attleboro Girls Recreation Assoc. and was a player and color commentator for the Attleboro Men’s Softball League. An avid sports fan of all New England teams, he also was a sports columnist for the Attleboro Sun Chronicle.

Mr. Engler was also a local oldies music deejay and enjoyed “HO” scale model railroading.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle Thatcher of Middleboro and Dr. Patricia Engler-Field of Foxboro; his son, Douglas Engler of Fulton, NY and three grandchildren, Samantha Thatcher, Zachary Sutton and Ryan Field.

Visiting hours will be held on Sat., January 15, 2011 at Foley Cook Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., Attleboro from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
