The boys soccer team lost a close game against Old Colony Vocational Technical High School Monday, Sept. 30.

The Vikings remained competitive the whole game after falling behind three to one at the end of the first half. The team came within one after a goal on a penalty kick but ended up falling to Old Colony 4-2.

The Vikings have totaled five losses on the season, but head coach Evan Wilga believes his team has a chance to bounce back.

"I think we can still make the playoffs if we win all our winnable games," said Wilga. "We look forward to the games that we're going to be competitive in and we know we can win."

According to Wilga, untimely mistakes have plagued the team all year, and he said that was the case today.

"I thought if we didn't make a few mistakes it could've been 2-2 or 2-1 us but for some reason this season we have been making a lot of mistakes," said Wilga.

Wilga credits some of the struggles to the mental aspect of the sport.

"I think we have not found our winning mentality," he said. "We've lost two games by a goal and this one by two goals and we've been competitive in almost every single game, but we just don't have the finishing touch towards the end that we need."

Wilga is hopeful his team can find the finishing touch they need.

"I think the finishing touch we need will come but it might be too late in the season for that," he said. "They are progressing. It's just not fast enough."

The Vikings travel to Holbrook High School Tuesday, Oct. 1 for their next game.
