Did Wareham Buy Another Bus?

Mar 10, 2012

On Thursday afternoon (March 8th) I was travelling eastbound on Route 195. Just after I passed the Marion exit, I noticed a school bus ahead of me. This caught my attention because, even from behind, it was obvious that this was a new school bus. There were design changes including curves where there are typically corners, taller, tinted windows, surrounded by black trim, which were sloped inward to the roof which had white plastic covering it, and glossy yellow paint/finish on the body of the bus. As I pulled up alongside the bus, I could see that the front end also had more curves, seemingly a more aerodynamic design, and there was a bus number in large black numbers, "100." The real surprise was the name, in large black letters, on the side of the bus . . . "WAREHAM PUBLIC SCHOOLS." There did not appear to be any students on the bus, and it continued on Route 195 after I took the Route 28 exit.

I know that a bus was purchased last June for the special education students. The old bus had been one of the smaller size buses, and it is a reasonable assumption to conclude that the replacement bus would also be of a similar size and perhaps having handicapped accessibility. The brand new bus which was on Route 195 on Thursday was a full size (abt. 48 student capacity) bus with no handicapped accessibility, so I can't help but wonder if another new bus has been purchased before the voters have approved it!
