Doris D. (Lopes) Dias, 95, of Onset formerly of Wareham and Boston died Saturday, August 2 at the Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion. She was the wife of the late Manuel “Lilly” Dias.
Born in Canton, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Dominga (Lomba) Lopes who emigrated from Cape Verde in the early 1900s. A previous resident of Boston, she lived in Onset and Wareham most of her life. She attended Wareham schools including the Oak Grove School in Onset.
A homemaker, Mrs. Dias was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, dancing, and all types of music. A loving and gentle woman, her doors and her heart were always open.
She is survived by four daughters, Cheryl Dias of Wareham, Myrna Dias-Antoine of Randolph, Darlene Dias of S. Easton and Judy Ferry Pires of GA; two sons, Leonard Dias of Brockton and Bernard “Tiny” Dias of Braintree.
She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dias was predeceased by her son, the late Raoul “Junior” Galvin and her siblings, the late Mary Lopes-Miranda, Nellie Fernandez, Minnie Barros, Arthur Lopes, George Lopes and John Lopes.
Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Friday, August 8 at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 – 9 p.m.
