Doris Deolinda (Joia) Ferreira, 83, worked for Aerovox, formerly of New Bedford

Doris Deolinda (Joia) Ferreira, 83, of West Wareham, died Tuesday, August 23 at Kindred Transitional Care at Forestview in Wareham after a long illness. She was the wife of August A. “Gus” Ferreira.

Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late Fannie (Britto) and Manuel Joia, Sr. A longtime resident of New Bedford, she returned to Wareham in 2005. Mrs. Ferreira worked as a cook at the former Lobster Bowl restaurant in Wareham and as an assembler for Aerovox in New Bedford.

A member of the Happy Couples Club in New Bedford, she also enjoyed dancing and cooking. Mrs. Ferreira was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marie Johnson and her husband Kevin of West Wareham and Cynthia Lee; two grandsons, Kevin Johnson, Jr. and Brandin Johnson; her siblings, Jennie Roderick of Chatham, Rita Vieira and her husband Frank of West Wareham, Tina Raneo and her husband Wally of Harwichport, Irene Walker and her husband Sonny of FL, Hilda Gibson and her husband John of West Wareham, Frances Dawson of FL, and Manuel Joia, Jr. of CA, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, the late Mark Ferreira, her sisters, the late Alice Joia and Helen Andrews, and her brother, the late Arthur Joia, Sr.

Her funeral was held August 26. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Patrick’s Church. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne.
