Downed wires close Charge Pond Road on Saturday

Mar 15, 2014

Charge Pond Road was shut down Saturday afternoon between Route 28 and Cabral Way because of two downed utility poles.

A cranberry truck hit one of the overhead wires and dragged down two utility poles at 2 p.m., according to Wareham interim Police Chief Kevin Walsh.

One of the poles was destroyed while the other leaned into the road. No one was injured as a result of the accident.

NStar, XFinity and Wareham Water District trucks as well as numerous police cars were on the scene. Police cars were stationed at the entrance to Charge Pond Road on Route 28 and at Cabral Way, just before the Gleason Family YMCA, to assist traffic.

Charge Pond Road was re-opened for use at 6:19 p.m. on Saturday.
