Early morning Main Avenue fire deemed accidental
No one was injured in a house fire that broke out just before 6 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, heavily damaging an Onset home.
Two adults and three children were displaced from the single-family, Cape-style home at 13 Main Avenue. The Red Cross is assisting the family with housing and the replacement of belongings, said Onset Fire Deputy Jeffrey Osswald.
A firefighter sustained a minor injury while working. He was evaluated by Wareham EMS at the scene and did not require further treatment, Osswald said.
Flames and smoke were shooting out of second-floor windows as the Onset Fire Department arrived. The family evacuated to a neighbor's home.
Thirty firefighters battled the blaze for 30 minutes. In addition to Onset Fire, the Wareham and Bourne fire departments responded to the scene. Wareham provided coverage of the Onset fire station during the incident.
The cause of the fire was deemed accidental by Onset Fire and the state Fire Marshal.
