Edmund Carroll Reed, 85, watchmaker, U.S. Navy veteran
Edmund Carroll Reed, 85, formerly of West Wareham, died July 3 at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation & Living Center in Dennis after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Esther C. (Dunham) Reed.
Born in New Bedford and raised in Padanaram, he was the son of the late Nathaniel & Sarah B. (Haskins) Reed. As a young man, Mr. Reed worked as busboy at the Red Coach Grill in Middleboro. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1954 and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer (CV-21). After his military service, Mr. Reed was owner of Reed’s Watch Shop in Middleboro. He then retired from the Foxboro Company in W. Bridgewater.
Mr. Reed loved sailing, traveling, and spending time at his family home on Lake Assawompsett.
He is survived by two daughters, Jill Sarkes of Harwich Port and Lisa McGuire of Ferrisburg, VT; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, the late Lawrence Reed, and his sister, the late Katherine Plomenden.
Funeral services will be held on Tues., July 10, 2012 at Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 – 8 PM.
