Edward Amado, 81

Edward Amado, 81, of Onset, died Feb. 13 in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was the husband of Wilhelmina (Smith) Amado and the son of the late Leon S. and Maria L. (Nunes) Amado.

He was born in Onset. He graduated from Wareham High School, Class of ’48. He lived in Niagara Falls and Buffalo, New York, for many years before returning to Onset in 1992.

Mr. Amado was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He then worked as a civilian Personnel Specialist for the U.S. Air Force for 29 years. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for 20 years.

He was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and served as Financial Manager for the church Board of Trustees.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed collecting rare and antique history books. He also enjoyed collecting Cape Verdean memorabilia and researching family history and genealogy.

Survivors include his widow, Wilhelmina (Smith) Amado; a son, Jeffrey Amado and his wife, Connie of Acworth, GA; 2 grandsons, Alex and Grayson Amado; a brother, Manuel Amado, Sr.; a sister, Olive Andrews both of Onset; a host of nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late James, Frank, Domingo, Amelia, Jeanette “Nettie,” and Lottie Amado.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 17, in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 391 Onset Ave. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
