Elaine M. (Eardley) Butterworth, 61, of Wareham, died Thursday, Jan. 28 at her home in Wareham. She was the wife of Gary E. Butterworth.

Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of the late George E. & Ruth F. (Groden) Eardley. A resident of Stoughton, she graduated from Stoughton High School in 1972. Previously living in Middleboro, Elaine moved to Wareham in 1985.

For many years, Elaine worked as a nurse’s aide for local nursing homes and also worked as a hospice volunteer.

An active communicant in her parish of St. Patrick’s Church in Wareham, Elaine was a member of the Pro-Life Committee, volunteered for the parish Nights of Hospitality for the homeless and the food pantry.

She enjoyed motorcycling, boating and loved roller coasters.

Survivors include her husband; her daughter, Jennifer Lynn Gropman and her husband Francis, of Wareham; her sister, Kathy Fisher, of Wareham; her brother, Kevin Eardley, of Wareham, and her grandchildren, Hannah and Shea Gropman.

Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
