Elementary school supports Friends of Jack Foundation

Staff members and students at the Wareham Elementary School may be seen wearing bright red the week following Thanksgiving.

The school is participating in the Friends of Jack Foundation Tutu Challenge for the second year in a row. Last year, it was the first school to join in the challenge, with hundreds of staff members and students participating.

The Friends of Jack Foundation is a non-profit supporting programs for children's health along the South Coast and into Rhode Island.

It was started by a mother who realized the need to support children while they were in the hospital undergoing pediatric care, said Kindergarten Teacher Wendy Nault.

The tutu challenge raises awareness about the organization "as well as funds to buy gifts for less fortunate children during the holidays," said Permanent Intermittent Substitute Teacher Nicole Nault.

Administration and specialists wore red tutus on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and challenged Pre-K and Kindergarten classes to participate the following Monday.

Each class then challenges the next successive class throughout that week, with teachers and staff members wearing red tutus and students encouraged to wear the color red.

"The Friends of Jack Foundation does a lot for local children, including the children of Wareham, so we love supporting them through this fun challenge," said Nicole.
