Elizabeth “Betty” (Fontes) Andrade, 86, of Onset, died Saturday, December 31 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was the wife of the late Charles Andrade.

Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late Morris Fontes and Angelina (Martin) Riberio. She graduated from Bourne High School.

Mrs. Andrade had many jobs during her lifetime. She worked as a welder during World War II, as a picker in local cranberry bogs, as an assembler at Aerovox in New Bedford and as a cafeteria manager at Wareham High School.

She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She loved spending time with her family, teaching her grandchildren card games, traveling and playing bingo. She was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Buzzards Bay.

Survivors include her children, Charles Andrade, Jr. and his wife Carol of Marstons Mills, Kathleen “Kathy” Canute and Angela Brito of Onset, Bette Andrade-Cardoza and her husband Martin also of Onset and Lori Andrade McCain and her husband Wendell of Chapel Hill, NC, 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and siblings in California and Ohio. Her brother, the late Morris Fontes, Jr. and her son-in-law, the late Joseph Canute, III, predeceased her.

Visiting hours and Mass were held January 6. Interment will be private.
