Eugene F. Newton, aged 80, of Wareham, formerly of Middleboro, died on Wednesday, March 30 at the Royal Cape Cod Nursing Home, Buzzards Bay. He was the husband of Mary Lou (McNearney) Newton. He was born in Middleboro, son of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Moore) Newton. He was a graduate of Middleboro High School, class of 1955.

He served in the United States Navy. He and his wife owned and operated McNearney’s Insurance Agency. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro. Eugene was a member of the Middleboro Lodge of Elks, Past President of the Mitchell Memorial Club, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and the V.F.W. Post 2188. He also worked with the Sacred Heart Drum and Bugle Corp.

He enjoyed football, golfing and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; a son, Daniel F. Newton, of Middleboro; a daughter, Colleen M. and her husband James Dube, of Freetown; a sister, Shirley Healy, of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Madeline Newton, Victoria Newton, Zachary Dube and Abigail Dube. He was brother of the late Kenneth Newton and Donna Goldman.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St. Middleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 340 Centre St. Middleboro, on Tuesday, April 5 at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Middleboro.
