Extreme Science practiced in Middle School auditorium
With the aid of a few props, and several scientific principles, some extreme science went down in the Wareham Middle School auditorium Wednesday morning.
Extreme Science Assembly, an interactive performance put on by Hagerman the Entertainer, focused on teaching students scientific principles in an engaging, theatrical way. Middle School Principal Dan Minkle said the performance, pulled together by the PTA, was “a little bit of science, a little bit of vaudeville.”
“When I first walked into the auditorium, he was on roller skates and wearing a smock, and I thought, ‘Oh, okay, how is this going to go?’” Minkle said. “I was wondering how he would tailor the show for different grade levels, but he pulled that off very well.”
Hagerman the Entertainer is a performer who wears many hats. The Missouri man began performing for schools in 1995, and tours the country putting on shows in schools and at public and private events.
Hagerman put on different shows for each of the grade levels, and Minkle said Hagerman got great reactions from teachers and kids alike.
“We had no problems managing the kids, because they were totally enthralled,” Minkle said.
Minkle also said the school decided to give out tickets to students that Hagerman would pull out of a cup, to determine who would participate in the show.
“We gave recognition to the students that do everything they are asked to do, and gave them a couple minutes in the limelight,” Minkle said.
