Family, friends of Trey Miranda gather for vigil
A recently deceased Onset teen, whose courageous battle against cancer brought Wareham together, was in the thoughts and prayers of those who came together for a candlelight vigil on Tuesday.
Trey Miranda died Sunday night, succumbing to brain cancer.
That prompted family and friends to hold the vigil on the Onset Pier where hundreds gathered in his memory.
“He was strong, he was a fighter. We appreciated everything he did and we did everything we could in return," said Brianna Tavares, a friend, referring to the fundraisers and rallies held this past year.
Winna Dean, a friend of Miranda’s mother, Teena, recalled seeing mother and son often at the library where she works.
“She would always come down with Trey and his brother, Jordan,” she said. “Everybody knows the family.”
After prayers, those gathered lit candles on the pier, shielding them carefully from a strong breeze. Hundreds of balloons were released just after sundown.
