Firefighters battle flames, cold on Knowles Avenue

Feb 5, 2023

Thirty-two Wareham firefighters battled a fire that gutted a home at 11 Knowles Ave. on Saturday, Feb. 4.

Saturday’s extremely cold temperatures, which caused the water from the firefighters’ hoses to freeze, made it take two and a half hours to contain the flames.

At approximately 3 p.m., Wareham Fire Assistant Chief Mark Rogers saw heavy smoke coming from the residence, according to a Fire Department press release.

Captain Chris McIntosh and firefighters Evan Moretti and Dan Freitas entered the structure to put out the flames, but encountered “multiple hazards” including compromised floors on all levels of the building. The three men were forced to evacuate and wait for reinforcement.

The Fire Departments of Onset, Marion, Bourne and Carver provided backup.

According to the Wareham Fire Department, there were no injuries. The cause of fire remains under investigation.

The fire destroyed the home of Carol Reynolds and her partner Daniel Tribou, both employees of the A.D. Makepeace Company. Reynolds was in Boston at the time of the fire.

“The home Carol and Daniel built their beautiful life together has now been deemed unlivable,” Carol’s daughter Amy Reynolds wrote on the family’s GoFundMe page.
