First Citizens' scholarship applications being accepted Feb. 2
Applications for First Citizens' Federal Credit Union's 19th Annual Barbara Whitehead Silva Scholarship and Champion Family Scholarship Program will be available starting February 2.
A total of 15 $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors from 11 different local high schools, including Wareham High School and Upper Cape Regional Technical High School.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, community service, and financial need.
One of the 15 scholarships will be awarded in honor of Barbara Whitehead Silva, former President and CEO of First Citizens. Three scholarships will be awarded to immediate family members of individuals with Champion Checking Accounts at the credit union, which are available to teachers, EMTs, police, firefighters, and healthcare professionals.
Applications are available at First Citizens' branch offices or at www.firstcitizens.org. Applicants must have a parent who is a member of the credit union and also be a current senior or have been accepted to a college or university for the 2015-16 school year.
Applicants must submit a completed application, a one page typewritten essay addressing why their major field of study applies to their career goals, and a comprehensive official transcript.
The application deadline is April 1.
