Foster resigns from temporary position, Sullivan appointed interim town administrator

Town Financial Analyst Derek Sullivan was appointed interim town administrator by the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday.

Sullivan replaces John Foster, who resigned from the temporary post on Tuesday, Sullivan said.

Foster held dual roles as interim town administrator and town treasurer/collector. He continues his work as treasurer/collector. Additional work in that office hastened his resignation from the administration office, Sullivan said.

"His department is kind of a three-legged chair right now, because he is one of the legs," Sullivan said, explaining that the Treasurer/Collector's office is currently busy setting tax rates.

Foster was appointed interim town administrator last April. He was chosen to fill in following the resignation of Town Administrator Mark Andrews, who left Wareham for an interim town administrator position in Wenham.

"I'm happy and proud and looking forward to serving the community in this capacity," Sullivan said.

A hiring committee has been interviewing candidates for a the permanent town administrator position. Sullivan said he did not know when a new town administrator would be appointed.
